Lightning Is My Girl

AMAZING! I ALWAYS DREAMED OF LIVING IN VIENNA AT THE TURN OF THE LAST CENTURY… the painters, the victorian life style… i was greeted like an old friend there, although i have NOT been there in 6 years… thank you for your patience! the festival this summer confirmed we had a connection with one another x we are following the same feeling.

after matt’s beautiful blue series of OOOM life on stage and backstage, he caught the boys sleeping on the job, me prepping, then dove into the outrageously beautiful city of VIENNA!

back in OOOMLand there was love between old friends, funny hair, sweet hearted and supportive concert goers and an edible MAdM Bass guitar cake!!!!

once the mega man saved me from the demon savages, the boys hit the street to prove how tough they can be, matt tried his first tough guy cigarette. soooo cool, pretty tough, but not BIG!

POLAND! DAY 2 X unfortunately, due to snow, and venue being a bit far out, we only saw the inside of the venue! i flexed my muscles and made the most of though and the crowd were great! thank you POLAND it was a pleasure meeting you for the first time. it will not be the last!

as always, i went out to meet the people. a with the a wonderful older gentleman, came to my show with my father’s book in hand. turns they were roommates in the 1960′s in montreal. nice montreal memories …. thank you warsaw!

15 YEARS INTO MY MUSIC JOURNEY, THERE ARE NOT MANY “FIRSTS” ANYMORE….
but playing for POLAND was a new first! i always had a feeling, based on the bit of insight i got from my mother who visited poland in the 1980′s for work in the theater and from my polish artist friend, maciejk szczerbowski (half of genius animation team CLYDE HENRY that there was something special and passionate going on in those cold cities…. WE WERE FLOORED by the love, moving, screaming, enthusiasm and openness at our first show in POLAND. WROCLAW was the first of the two cities, it is a beautiful city, over a 1000 years old. beautiful old part we walked through, in perfect fluff snow…..

introducing TROY VON BALTHAZAR on this leg of the tour with us. the inspiring one man show, joined us in Hamburg, and will be with us through my homeland of SWITZERLAND. he is a dear old friend of mine, who has followed his poetic and unique musical innards whole heartedly. he just released HOW TO LIVE ON NOTHING, a beautiful new album. honor to have him with me for the OUT OF OUR MINDS Tour x

AWOKE IN A WINTER WONDERLAND FUN HOUSE!
opened my eyes on the streets of HAMBURG, outside the “DOM” winter amusement park, right next das “BUNKER”, an old war building turn, club, music store, radio station etc… took a walk around the neighborhood and instantly found 3 perfect coffee shops, vintage clothing store, cool eco friendly winter red high heeled boots made of recycled materials…. and i knew i was in HEAVEN! i have not been or played in hamburg, since the spring of 2004, on my debut album…… but i instantly remembered it when i got to the club. i was greeted by the club owner that also reminded me an epic HOLE gig, 9 years ago! i love the glimpses of memories i find in these cities. then when we play the show, i new memory and feel for that city is born. thank you to the promoters, audience, local papers / radio / writers, for supporting me in my pursuit of sharing my music and inner fire. it mean the world to me and you build my world with me……. x this was an incredible day of conversations with locals and a great intense rock show.

TALLEST MAN IN THE WORLD, LITTLE SHOW THAT COULD!
the copenhagen show must go on! despite cancellation of the thursday night at Vega, i refuse to come all the way to europe and not play copenhagen after 6 years of NOT. we were very lucky to connect with YOU SAY PARTY! in OSLO earlier in the week and discover they were playing on our day off, and one thing led to another we joined their show, and had a GREAT SHOW! THANK YOU YSP! was a pleasure to finally cross paths and meeting more fellow sweet heart talented Canadians xxxxxxxx loads more snow to make us feel at home too!

ashley, will, matt and i headed into town to see the site. we lost each other, but will & matt found the little mermaid…… while our swan of a fearless leader tour manager had a coffee and held down the fort.

matt took a break from editing, to join the boys in the boiler room for laundry day….

YOU SAY PARTY! PLAYED THEIR BEAUTY HEARTS OUT – we brought some cheap champagne to the stage for their drummer, alan’s b-day bash!

p.s. other than striving to make a show happen at all, the best part of copenhagen, is MATT found another city to do jump split in!

anyone visiting this blog, would know by now, that i have a thing for scandinavia. although they say there we no vikings in finland (i say there were vikings everywhere!) i still feel the connection with the finns, which was then emphasized further by the viking volcano incident. in the spring, i was stranded in finland (PLEASE visit VOLCANO BLOG ARCHIVES for proof!) and things got even closer between me and the unique bread of humans that hover in the north. for most of the world, OUT OF OUR MINDS tour is bringing me back for the first time in over 5 years. i’ve played 4 shows in helsinki in the last 2 years x go figure. i feel at home there, and the great people receive me as if i was there own…. and it was SNOWING, but cozy backstage at NOSTURI!

finland’s own MANNA played her final show on our MAdM MANNA scandinavian run together (earlier in the day, we braved the snow together for some soup, heart to heart and a dress, kittos) their show was fantastic. MANNA joined me later for the new ‘BECAUSE THE NIGHT” tradition that Harkin and I established at the top of this tour x

We played a show, where i was challenged with with some technical oddness climaxing with breaking my LOW E string at the top of Followed the Waves. my first string break since 1995 – but thankfully it happened, where i feel most at home x

…. and of course, there was the CLASS OF HOPE 2010 REUNION!!! lovely lovely faces, those that i picture in my inner minds eye, when i play music inside. thank you for being YOU! x REACHING FOR HOPE!

I DISCOVERED NORWAY’S SHINING AT DOUR FESTIVAL THIS SUMMER
a dream of collaboration has been hatching since then…… we arrived in perfect Oslo, to make up for our Lost Volcanic Mono Show, and to summon Blackjazz…….

The MAN and his SAX arrived, we walked through some songs and whipped through a soundcheck to see what came out…

Foggy Notion was the first Munkeby choice, so that came first in the set, BUT we threatened to come back with more. she’s seen it before, and she still wants more…..

MOST OUTRAGEOUS VERSION OF “SKIN RECEIVER” EVER RENDERED X knock my lights out inspiring to have a wind instrument with a Viking at the helm, join the electric dirge – extra musicality brought into the light.
